  • Technical description: Dark stained boxwood with ivory ferrules and brass keywork, crook and bell. Six pieces: mouthpiece, barrel, crook, upper section, lower section, bell. Original blackwood mouthpiece grooved for cord. Lower tenon of barrel made of brass. Brass crook with a tuning slide. Long tailed English-style throat A?. Tone-hole for L3 lined with ivory or horn. Keys mounted in blocks, saddles or pillars on saddles. Cross keys have round touchpieces. Wide ivory ferrule replaces thumb rest. Curved wide funnel shaped brass bell. 18 keys. L0: T; speaker. L1: T; throat A?. L2: T; throat A?. L3: T; E?4/B?5. L4: C?4/G?5; E3/B?4; F?3/C?5. R0: C3; C?3; D3; D?3. R1: T; side F4/C6; side trill for throat A-B? and B?-C. R2: T; cross B?3/F?5. R3: T; cross B?3/F?5; side B?3/F?5. R4: G?3/E?5; F3/C5. Keymount type: blocks, saddles, pillars on plates. Keyhead type: salt spoon.
Inscriptions :
Inscribed on mouthpiece presumably "George Wood"; on both sections "Wood & Ivy" (cursive); on bell "Wood & Ivy / (late George Wood) / 50 New Compton St., Soho. / London.".
