This piano was used on the Royal Yacht Victoria and Albert between 1904 and 1954. After that, it was presented by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II to the Portsmouth Group Band, whose responsibility was to provide the Royal Yacht Band at that time. The piano was in constant use by successive bands until January 1982 when it was presented to the museum. It still is in playing condition. It is an upright piano with satin wood veneer, a keyboard with 88 keys (A0-A7: seven octaves plus 3 notes), and two pedals, probably for soft and sustain effects.
